ESDM Intervention in the Early Learning Environment

Kindred Kids Early Intervention
Where inclusion, learning and belonging come together

Kindred Kids Early Intervention provides Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) Intervention within Early Learning environments across the Sunshine Coast. Our ESDM Practitioners are based on-site at Meadow Lane Early Learning Centres and deliver evidence-based early intervention to children enrolled at Meadow Lane, as well as to children attending other Early Learning Centres. This ensures children remain fully included in their early learning program, connected with peers and engaged in daily experiences while receiving professional, individualised supports.

What is the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)?

The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is an evidence-based early intervention approach designed for young children with autism and/or social communication differences.

Grounded in over 40 years of research, ESDM supports development across:

Communication

Social engagement

Cognitive development

Adaptive behaviour

Play skills

Motor skills

ESDM is delivered through naturalistic, play-based interactions. Children lead through their interests, and the Practitioner thoughtfully embeds individualised developmental goals into meaningful everyday experiences. Families are active partners in the process because meaningful progress happens when home and early learning environments work together.

Our Integrated Model

Kindred Kids Early Intervention Practitioners deliver intervention within familiar settings, enabling children to access evidence-based early support in natural play environments

Within peer relationships

Embedded in daily routines

In collaboration with educators

This allows development to occur where children learn best – through connection, play and belonging.

This is not therapy removed from the learning environment it is development embedded within belonging.

Who Can Access ESDM Intervention?

Kindred Kids Early Intervention services are available to:

Children attending Meadow Lane Early Learning

Children attending other Early Learning Centres in the community

Families accessing NDIS funding

Privately funded families

How ESDM Intervention Works

Intake & Assessment

We begin with an Intake Consultation to understand your child’s development, strengths, goals and

previous supports.

An Individualised Assessment evaluates development across 11 domains and forms the foundation for personalised goal setting.

From there, a tailored intervention program is developed in collaboration with families.

Intervention Cycles

ESDM is delivered on-site within your child’s Early Learning Centre.

Intervention occurs across four annual cycles, each including:

– 10–11 weeks of face-to-face intervention

– Data review and goal tracking

– Caregiver consultation and goal refinement

– This structured approach ensures progress is monitored, responsive and individualised.

Partnering with Families

We offer parent guidance sessions (via telehealth) to:

– Strengthen confidence in supporting your child

– Provide practical strategies for home

– Promote consistency across environments

These sessions are available to all families seeking guidance, not only those accessing formal intervention.

Supervision & Mentoring

We are on a mission

Where a child is supported by a Therapy Assistant or Support Worker, our ESDM Practitioners can provide supervision and mentoring to ensure consistency and quality across settings.
